Some conclusions for my English friends:
1. The best weather in Fji is between end of April and beginning of November. The water will be clear blue and it will not rain as much.
2. Avoid, if possible, the main island Viti Levu and go for the islands instead. The beaches have better sand and the water is better for diving with better sight. I think the risk for rain will decrease as well.
After all, you have a total of 333 islands to choose from.
3. People are very friendly and it is not uncommon to be invited home to them for a meal.
4. Many people are really poor. A carpenter can earn as little as 1 Euro per hour and a taxi driver 50 Euro per week.
5. It is still surprisingly expensive on Fiji, en 33 cl Coca-Cola costs 1 Euro, a Big Mac 5,50 Euro, an iPhone 4S costs over 1000 Euro and a normal meal on a cheap place can cost 5 Euro.
6. Avoid isolated hotels, the lower price for the room will be compensated by really expensive meals that you must buy in their restaurants. It was not uncommon to get a standard meal or a breakfast for 15 Euro and up.
7. Two places I have been recommended is up in the north and north east, Savusavu are having very nice beaches and water and the island Taveuni is called the Garden Island and they tell me it is a fantastic place to visit. You can go there by plane from Nadi or Suva or take the ferry from Suva, the ferry will take appr. 36 hours.
8. Fiji-time! Do not expect anything to happen at a specific time... When somebody finally show up they just smile and say -It's Fiji time. ;)
9. If you like diving you shall not miss the shark feeding outside Pacific Harbour, 40 minutes drive west of Suva and you must normally be there around 08:00 in the morning. Please book in advance, they do not dive every day. Please check out this: Youtube klipp. Shit, I did not want to miss it but had to cancel due to some stomach problems. :(
So I hope to be able to come here again, I have still 331 islands to visit... ;)
